How to remove your data from MegaData Marketing BV
A free, step-by-step walkthrough for sending a GDPR Article 17 erasure request to MegaData Marketing BV — the Dutch data broker that resells consumer profiles to marketing agencies across the EU.
MegaData Marketing BV is one of the largest data brokers operating in the Netherlands. They aggregate names, emails, phone numbers, and postal addresses from public sources and third parties — then resell that data to advertisers. You have the legal right to make all of it disappear.
Step 1 — Gather your identifiers
Before you write, list every identifier MegaData might have. Old email aliases, secondary phone numbers, and previous addresses all count. Brokers commonly refuse requests by claiming they cannot locate the record — supplying more identifiers removes that excuse.
Step 2 — Send the erasure request
Email privacy@megadata.nl with the subject line GDPR Article 17 — Request for Erasure. Use the template below — copy, fill in the bracketed fields, and send.
Subject: GDPR Article 17 — Request for Erasure To the Data Protection Officer, Under Article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), I request the erasure of all personal data MegaData Marketing BV holds about me, including but not limited to data obtained from third-party data brokers, public records, and tracking cookies. The personal identifiers I want erased: - Full name: [YOUR FULL NAME] - Email address(es): [YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES] - Phone number(s): [YOUR PHONE NUMBERS] - Postal address: [YOUR ADDRESS] I also request: 1. Confirmation in writing that the erasure has been completed. 2. That you notify any third parties with whom my data has been shared, as required by Article 19 GDPR. 3. That you cease all profiling and direct marketing based on my data, as permitted under Article 21 GDPR. Please respond within one (1) calendar month as required by Article 12(3) GDPR. If you require additional verification, contact me at this email address only — do not request additional documents beyond what is strictly necessary. Kind regards, [YOUR NAME] [DATE]
Step 3 — Track the 30-day countdown
Article 12(3) GDPR gives MegaData one calendar month to respond. Log the date you sent the request. If you don't hear back, send a one-line follow-up on day 25: "This is a reminder of my GDPR Article 17 request dated [DATE]. The statutory deadline expires on [DEADLINE]."
Step 4 — Escalate if ignored
If the deadline passes with no confirmation — or MegaData refuses — file a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch Data Protection Authority. Complaints are free and the AP regularly fines non-compliant brokers.
